For the first 10 years of his career, Jackson worked in various trades gaining on-the-job experience across many fields, including boiler‑making, advanced welding, press metal work, forging and specialty fabrication. With a love of hands-on work, Jackson decided to formalise his practical work with a qualification. So, he enrolled in the Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade.
As an experienced tradesperson, Jackson was able to draw on his experience to set a good example in the classroom. Throughout his training, Jackson demonstrated leadership by taking initiative, mentoring others and maintaining exceptionally high standards in both theory and practical work. His ability to translate classroom learning into high‑stakes workplace scenarios is a testament to his technical mastery, discipline and dedication.
Jackson’s achievements extend well beyond the classroom. Within a year, he earned lead welder status at his workplace, an impressive milestone reflecting his quick uptake of new skills. He is also trusted to work on confidential Defence projects, highlighting his professionalism and reliability.
Jackson manages his apprenticeship alongside running his own fabrication business and supporting friends and family with their projects. He values learning from others and is passionate about using practical skills to contribute to a more sustainable future.
After completing his qualification, Jackson hopes to pay it forward by hiring an apprentice of his own. He is dedicated to advancing the industry, with a particular interest in increasing accessibility and driving innovation within automotive fabrication.
Jackson is a finalist in the 2026 Chisholm Education Awards – Apprentice of the Year, recognising his commitment and dedication to his studies.
