Sport has always been a passion for Tyler. But when multiple concussions in Year 12 affected his studies, Tyler shifted his attention to a career in healthcare. Nursing quickly became his preference because it allowed him to combine his interest in supporting others with his love for hands-on work.
Since becoming a nurse, Tyler has found a sense of peace and true joy in the industry. He credits the course with giving him confidence and showing him where his true passion lies.
Throughout his studies, Tyler flourished in clinical environments. He showed determination, perseverance and discipline as he balanced a demanding academic schedule with personal commitments. Tyler was not shy about asking for clarification with his work, completing extra practical activities and taking on constructive feedback to strengthen his understanding and stay focused and motivated.
During placement, Tyler frequently received praise for his strong communication skills and his commitment to building rapport with patients. His calm, empathetic and kind nature helped patients feel safe and supported. He demonstrated maturity, reliability and a genuine dedication to providing high‑quality care - qualities that set him apart as a student nurse.
Tyler’s contributions extend well beyond the classroom. As a trainer for a local football club, he applies his training on game days by caring for injured players through first aid, injury management and ongoing support. He also educates younger players about concussion, injury prevention and when to seek medical care. His efforts have improved safety at the football club and educated members about their health and wellbeing.
Looking ahead, Tyler is focused on qualifying as a Registered Nurse and plans to pursue a career in paramedicine. As he says, ‘I'm proud of my journey so far and I can't wait to see what happens next”.
Tyler is a finalist in the 2026 Chisholm Education Awards – Vocational Student of the Year.
