Alexandra Preece, a determined and ambitious Chisholm beauty therapy student, has used her passion for beauty to drive her career growth further.

After completing her Diploma of Beauty Therapy in 2024, she emerged as a gold award winner in the Hair & Beauty category of the WorldSkills Regional Competition 2024 and is now gearing up to represent her region at the National Competition in June 2025.

Alex’s journey in the beauty therapy industry started with one question: "Why not follow what I love?" Always fascinated by health and beauty, Alex chose to build her skills in a field she was genuinely passionate about. Her experience at Chisholm elevated her technical knowledge and confirmed that this was the career she was destined to pursue.

What made Alex’s learning experience unique was the level of support she received from her teachers. "They weren’t just great educators – they were experienced professionals who brought real-life insights into the classroom," Alex shares. Their mentorship continued beyond the classroom, guiding her through the WorldSkills journey with extra training, encouragement, and practical preparation.

Out of the suite of skills that Alex learned, facials stood out as her favourite.  While she understands that the beauty industry is always evolving, Alex found the foundation of knowledge and practical training she received at Chisholm provided her with a strong understanding of how to apply her skills in real-world scenarios within the industry.

In anticipation of the National Competition, Alex is excited to showcase her abilities. “Honestly, I love a good competition,” she laughs. “It’s about performing the treatments and seeing the results.”

Alex has one piece of sage advice for other aspiring beauty therapists considering WorldSkills and her advice is simple: “Just do it! The overall experience is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

We look forward to watching Alex take on new challenges this June and into the future as she continues to grow and excel beyond her comfort zone.
