After finishing school, Jessie was ready for her next challenge but knew university wasn’t the right path for her. After years of helping in her family’s salon and developing a love of hairdressing, her mother encouraged her to pursue the Certificate III in Hairdressing.
Growing up in a family business gave Jessie a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn more about the industry.
Through her studies at Chisholm, Jessie feels a great sense of purpose and accomplishment: “I’m really proud of the confidence that I have gained while being at Chisholm ... I feel like a completely new person”.
Throughout her studies, she demonstrated maturity, professionalism and a positive attitude. She contributed meaningfully to the classroom environment by sharing her knowledge, supporting her peers and helped build a collaborative learning culture.Jessie now plays an essential role in her family’s salon. Through sharing the skills she learned at TAFE, Jessie has helped her family bridge the gap between traditional practices and new techniques, keeping the salon modern and competitive. This has brought in new clients, improved efficiency and enhanced the overall customer experience. Jessie also supports her mother, whose second language is English, by helping her understand technical terminology and new industry trends.
A dedicated member of her community, Jessie often volunteers to style friends and family for special events, giving her a chance to build her skills and earn a reputation.
Looking ahead, Jessie hopes to build a career in vocational mentorship, helping future apprentices master hairdressing techniques and develop strong client relationships.
Jessie is a finalist in the Chisholm Education Awards – Apprentice of the Year.
